𝒯𝑜𝓅𝒾𝒸: "Making Ends Meet"

𝐹𝓇𝒾𝒹𝒶𝓎'𝓈 𝒫𝓇𝒶𝓎𝑒𝓇: 𝟣𝟤/4/𝟤𝟢𝟤𝟢

𝒮𝒸𝓇𝒾𝓅𝓉𝓊𝓇𝑒: II Kings 4: 1-7

𝒯𝑜𝓅𝒾𝒸: "Making Ends Meet"

Do you feel you have more bills than money? Do you feel submerged with too many difficulties at one time in your life? Do you feel like you're running on empty and you just cannot determine how you will make ends meet? Brother and Sister, you are not alone. In fact, there is a great biblical reminder of a similar situation that a certain widow faced.

But first, let me present the scripture to you…

2 Kings 4: 1-7 NIV reads, "The wife of a man from the company of the prophets cried out to Elisha, “Your servant my husband is dead, and you know that he revered the Lord. But now his creditor is coming to take my two boys as his slaves.” 2 Elisha replied to her, “How can I help you? Tell me, what do you have in your house?” “Your servant has nothing there at all,” she said, “except a small jar of olive oil.” 3 Elisha said, “Go around and ask all your neighbors for empty jars. Don’t ask for just a few. 4 Then go inside and shut the door behind you and your sons. Pour oil into all the jars, and as each is filled, put it to one side.” 5 She left him and shut the door behind her and her sons. They brought the jars to her and she kept pouring. 6 When all the jars were full, she said to her son, “Bring me another one.” But he replied, “There is not a jar left.” Then the oil stopped flowing. 7 She went and told the man of God, and he said, “Go, sell the oil and pay your debts. You and your sons can live on what is left.”

During this point in scripture, Israel had fallen into Baal Worship. Baal was a “god” worshipped in many ancient Middle Eastern communities. The Canaanites were amongst the top worshippers of Baal. God promised the Prophet Elisha that Baal would eventually come to end. God was working through Israel to make the righteous stronger. Moreover, this was a call from God to evil doers and non-believers. Henceforth, leading to the miracle for this widow described above.

Think of this widow’s status as the modern day “First Lady” of a church.

I love the faith of the widow. Elisha instructed her to simply (use the resources already available to her) and watch God stretch the rest. She had the faith, was obedient, and God did just that! Now, this may not pertain to the perfect people, but you and I have all been in a position where we feared a bill would have to go unpaid, maybe the lights or water would be turned off if we did not come up with the past due balance, maybe a car repossession, a legal process, or a home foreclosure. Whatever your case, research resources that are in your reach.

This may not be applicable to everyone and this is not for everyone. But to the reader, there may be something already in your possession (gifts, talents, skills, supplies) that is within reach. Is there something in your home today that could return a profit? Ask God to reveal the lesson that He is teaching you. How is your personal relationship with God these days? Remember, the just and the unjust suffer. But there is a lesson in everything.

Let me pray for you as we reflect on Psalm 55:22, “Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you; He will never let the righteous be shaken.

Father, in the name of Jesus, we surrender our burden of financial stress, pressure, and overall worry to You oh God. Father God we surrender our doubts, fears, and difficulties to You. Father, if we are seeking to live beyond our means, to please others, reveal and heal us of those non-senses.

Father, though we may desire more, show us how to first be responsible and frugal with the small things we may have. Father help us to work in a spirit of excellence with the resources we have immediately available to us.

Father prepare a path for the righteous and reward our faithfulness to You God. If there is anything inside of us, that does not reflect Your will Father, we surrender that as well. Father we want to be wise and smart about money management.

Father send people in our paths to help those who are lacking financial wisdom. Father, for those who may not actively walk in their purpose, gifts, calling, or talents, we pray for supernatural breakthrough in their lives today God.
